Guyana

Introduction

Guyana is a small country located on the north-eastern section of the South American continent. It is the only English speaking country in South America.

Guyana is a country of many races, but the two dominant ones are Indians and Blacks.   Although some people will try their best to put Guyana in a positive light, it's not a country for the faint of heart.  If you're a tourist, take this country off your list now.

Reasons not to Visit Guyana

• violent crime
• lack of good infrastructure (frequent power failures, inaccessible phone service, poor roads)
• mosquitos (will eat you alive)
• riots

• Guyana and the Caribbean:  News and Information provides news, entertainment (music), chatrooms, discussion forums, and rebroadcasts of "Dhantal Radio" (a local Toronto radio show that showcases Indian talent from the Caribbean and around the world).  This is by far, the best site on the 'net for Guyanese.

• Guyana Alert tries to bring equality to Indians who live in Guyana.  If you are an Indian from Guyana, you must visit this page if you want to learn about the racial conflicts Guyana has experienced in the past and continues to go through in the present.

• Wayne's Guyana Page features recipes (no Indian ones), news, historical information, pictures, and more.  It tries to show Guyana in a positive light (if that's possible).

• Five day forecast for Georgetown.
• Directory of Guyanese on the Internet is a compilation of names, occupations, and e-mail addresses of Guyanese who are on the 'net.  You can add your name to the list (if you haven't already done so).  This site is very useful for finding long, lost friends.
• G. T. & T. is Guyana's telephone company.
• Stabroek News and The Guyana Chronicle are two of Guyana's national newspapers.  Both of these sites are slow and have an amateurish look and feel to them.
• Guyanese Poverty Relief Charity focuses on sheltering the homeless and educating the children of Guyana, South America.
• Guyana Online is a site that is full of various tid-bits of information
